America 250 Celebration

In celebration of the 250th Anniversary of America’s founding, Salem Area Historical Society will hold an America 250 Celebration on Saturday, June 27, 2026 at the Jarvis Stone School Historic District (7991 N. Territorial Rd. at Curtis Rd.) starting at 3 pm.  The Plymouth Fife and Drum Corps will open the event.  There will be Colonial-Period Historical Characters, presentations in the South Salem Stone School, “The American Founding Documents” exhibit (the Washtenaw County Historical Consortium (WCHC) exhibit that introduces the five seminal documents from the nation’s history), games, two music performances (Dodworth Saxhorn Band at 6 pm and Bluesdad with Doug Larson) and food trucks.    All are Welcome to this family-friendly celebration.  Free Admission. So, please save the date (6/27/2026) in order to join us at this celebration of America’s Founding.

We hope you join us to view this WCHC exhibit, made possible by an America250MI history grant. The exhibit offers an opportunity to engage with the core principles and values upon which the United States was built. The featured documents, which are instrumental to the nation’s philosophy, include:

  • The Declaration of Independence: Announcing the colonies’ separation from Great Britain.
  • The Federalist Papers: A series of essays written to persuade citizens to ratify the newly proposed Constitution.
  • The Bill of Rights: The first ten amendments to the Constitution, guaranteeing fundamental individual rights and freedoms.
  • The Northwest Ordinances:A series of laws by the Confederation Congress that created a government for the new territory including provisions for admitting new states.
  • The U.S. Constitution: Establishing the framework of the federal government.

This exhibit will be on display during the June 27th celebration.

The Washtenaw County Historical Consortium is a collaborative group of historical organizations and institutions across Washtenaw County, Michigan. Its purpose is to share information and raise public awareness about the value of local history.
