2024 Meeting Schedule for Salem Area Historical Society     

  • June 26 @ 7pm — South Salem Stone School, 7991 N. Territorial Rd. at Curtis Rd. — SPEAKERS: The first will be by Savannah Brinkmeier, a Senior at John Glenn High School in Westland, who earned a National Finalist position with her Michigan History Day project in the Senior Individual Documentary Category titled “A Song of Solidarity: The Unrest of DRUM Across Detroit”, will talk about her project.   In addition, she was awarded the “Best Entry in African-American History.” The second will be by Ethan Hoornstra, a Hillsdale College student, who recently completed an Oral History Project on the South Salem Stone School and Salem Township, will talk about his Oral History project.  Ethan interviewed 11 people for this project.
  • Sept. 25 @ 7pm — Dickerson Barn, 7991 N. Territorial Rd. at Curtis Rd. — SPEAKER: Chuck Bultman; Peninsular Paper Company

   

2024 Event Schedule for Salem Area Historical Society

  • Thursday, June 20 at 6pm — Salem Hills Golf Course, 8810 Six Mile Road. — EVENT: Dinner with Harry & Bess. While enjoying a Flatbread dinner, be transported back to 1952 and interact with these two historic figures, Harry and Bess Truman, in this presentation with seasoned actors portraying Harry and Bess. Learn about their rise in politics, their daughter Margaret and their strong love for each other. The presentation is authentic and presented with a keen sense of humor by Doré Productions of Northville. It is Family Entertainment and all are welcome.  The dinner will include the choice of three flatbreads, veggie crudités, and water, iced tea, lemonade, or pop. Tickets:  $33 per person ($30 per SAHS Member).
  • Saturday, August 17 from 10am to 4pm — Jarvis Stone School Historic District, 7991 N. Territorial Rd. — EVENT: SAHS Annual Arts and Crafts Fair. Join us for truly outstanding artists and crafters from around the area. Bake Sale all day or until sold out. The one-room historic stone schoolhouse will be open to view. Dickerson Barn Murals on display. Drinks and Snacks will be available for purchase. There are spaces for rent.
  • Sunday, October 20 at 6pm — Salem Hills Golf Course, 8810 Six Mile Road. — EVENT: Annual Dinner / Auction. This is a Multi-Course 2-Entrée Buffet Dinner, a silent auction, a live auction and Fun for all.  Auction items include: Tickets to area attractions, gift cards, sports memorabilia, historical items, gift baskets and much more.  All proceeds will be used to maintain the South Salem Stone School and the Dickerson Barn.
